We have been streaming indie concerts since the first coronavirus lockdown. By August 2021 we already had streamed 250+ concerts to more than a million viewers in 50+ countries. PR was mainly social and word-of-mouth.
The Effenaar is a 50-year-old legacy indie music venue in the high-tech city of Eindhoven (birthplace of Philips, ASML, Eindhoven Design Academy and the infamous Dynamo Open Air music festival). Many alternative bands played here in their underground days, such as Sex Pistols, Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam etc. The audience ranges from nanotech PhDs, design students, and high-tech workers. Today their focus also includes DJ and Urban music.
Since 2017 the Effenaar has proactively explored their digital future with AR, VR, in-house 4D recordings, and streaming. Copyright Delta was invited to join pre-Covid to focus on blockchain-enabled royalties in VR, and automated setlists for live music.
With their 15 million euro infrastructure and 4 million euro annual budget the Effenaar combines grassroots innovation with the high-tech power of the Eindhoven Brainport region.
Covid and NFTs are rapidly accelerating the already changing music industry. We believe that the impact of recent events will also have a lasting impact on music venues.
In the first week of the March 2020 lockdown, the Effenaar tasked Copyright Delta with co-building the (Isolation) Sessions streaming portal. To support artists, they believed it was their cultural obligation to stream live shows every evening, while social distancing within the studio. Since then they have streamed 250+ established and upcoming indie bands.
This is just the start. We believe that many more music venues will combine live performances with enhanced digital experiences worldwide. To better connect fans with their favorite artists, they will work closely with global music channels, streaming platforms, and apply tokenized monetization and royalty models (Bootleg 2.0).
We gratefully acknowledge Microsoft for Startups for sponsoring the Sessions (through Copyright Delta).

The Effenaar Smart Venue aims to further establish themselves as an innovation hub for media technologies. This requires partnerships with more creators, content owners, streaming platforms, and technology providers.
Among the next steps are streaming in VR, games and NFT-enabled recordings (live, VR, AR, 4D), all with tokenized royalties. This combination results in new revenue streams with fast insights and verified royalties for artists, authors, managers, rights owners, and representatives.
Current steps include on-boarding music venues who requested to join the Sessions portal, distributing Sessions songs to Spotify (as a direct distributor) and producing podcasts.
As a B2B innovation partner we focus on tokenized royalty administration and NFT-enabled media assets (Bootleg 2.0).
